  • The second Son of George Alec and Rachel Kidd Wood....lived most of his life farming the land in the Municipality of Cameron, Township 5, Range 23, some 5 miles South of Hartney,on the West Half of 15-5-23,which he purchased from George Sutherland, and resided there until he and his Family retired to Hartney in 1957.

Ollie received his education at the Chain Lakes School, and upon graduation took up farming. He was a hard working Farmer, as were all of his neighbors, and he took great pride in his farm and his livestock. He operated a mixed farm consisting of cattle, horses, pigs and poultry, had a real love for his horses and kept them will fed and groomed.

His crops consisted of wheat, barley and oats, some of these crops being used as feed for livestockand some sold to the grain elevator.Although he only had a half section of land, he made a good living off the land. Now many farmers in Manitoba have at leastfour sections or more of land.Ollie's Brother PercyWood farmed the old homestead on the adjacent half section and as was the custom of the times, they and other neighboring farmers collectivelyworked together at harvest time taking off the crops.

Ollie was very outgoing and loved to visit;he was never too busy for a friendly chat with one of his neighbors across the fence;was a very caring and thoughtful individual , going to the aid of anyone who needed help and alwaysassisting a friend in need. This was a traitthat was always mentioned byanyone who knew Ollie!

Ollie was united in marriage to Edythe Caroline Dunning, the Daughter of James and Marguerite Morrison Dunning of Dand, Manitoba on December 16, 1936.Ollie and Edythe had two children, Daughter Marion Margrite and a Son who died at birth.

He was a loyal Member of the United Church of Hartney, and after retirement enjoyed living in this quaint little town of Hartney, Manitoba, howeverhe and his Wife Edythe moved to Winnipeg in 1964, where he lived out his life and passed away on February 2, 1966.He is buried in the Wood Family Plot in Harney.
