  • Alfred was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Alfred and Mary had one Daughter, Georgia whom they idealized.Alfred came West as a young man where he worked around the Hartney District as a farm hand where he met Mary Wood.

    He joined the Canadian Army with the 222nd. Battalion Infantry Division, spending 3 1/2 years during World War I in England and France. After the war he started his own transportation business Grey Goose Bus Lines in Winnipeg, Manitoba and became a very successful operator of a Trans-Canada Bus system. He later sold out to Grey Hound Bus Lines of Canada and retired to Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

  • Youngest Daughter of George Alec and Rachel Kidd Wood, born on the farmstead near Hartney, Manitoba, Canada, Mary received her education at local schools.Met and married Alfred Hurshman, had one Daughter, Georgia and lived most of her life in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

    Mary and her Husband Alfred retired to Vancouver, B.C., and after her Husband died, her Mother Rachel lived with her for many years in a very nice Condominium apartment overlooking the City of Vancouver.In her later years Kenneth Wright her Nephew had many pleasant visits with Mary while on business in Vancouver.

    Mary was a very pleasant person, kind of quiet and reserved, very hospitable, and an excellent home maker, Wife and Mother.
